Mobile catering gas safety certificate - CP44
You need a mobile catering gas certificate for running a food business and using gas appliances attached to an LPG gas bottle.
Our LPG gas engineers are here to help you. We can check your gas appliances and equipment for leaks, damage, or faults.
Our LPG gas engineer will check the following:
- The gas appliance was installed correctly and connected to a compliant gas hose suitable for LPG.
- The gas equipment is not damaged or faulty.
- The burner pressure and flame picture (good if blue and bed if yellow).
- The safe operation and pressure of the LPG regulator,
- The area is well ventilated.
- The appliance is secure.
- The Flame failure device (FFD) is fitted and working correctly.
- You have a fire extinguisher and a fire blanket.
- The pipework is gastight and checked for leaks with gas leak detection fluid, electrical leak detector, or electrical manometer.
After the test, our engineer will issue the mobile catering gas certificate.
The most commonly used LPG cooking appliances are LPG gas cookers, LPG gas hobs, LPG gas ovens, LPG gas fryers, LPG gas griddles, LPG bain Marie, LPG gas stoves, LPG gas BBQs, and LPG burners. Please ensure when you buy your gas equipment, it is suitable to use with LPG. Otherwise, you can pay for conversion from natural gas to LPG.
There are three different mobile food business types:
- Food stall businesses are trading on a food market: these food businesses normally trade under a gazebo. They use foldable tables. Mostly, they use tabletop gas appliances. LPG gas appliances are very commonly used, due to that electric supply is not available most of the time and generators are noisy
- Catering vans are popular for food businesses that trade in festivals and music festivals. Historic vehicles have a very cool look, which attracts significantly more customers. Overall, a catering van offers a good balance between space, cost, and manoeuvrability, making it suitable for various catering needs.
- Catering trailers typically have a higher initial and operational cost than gazebos, requiring significant investment. Trailers require dedicated storage space and regular maintenance, adding to logistical and financial considerations. Security could also be an issue; unfortunately, many trailers are stolen yearly. Trailers can be more challenging to manoeuvre and park, especially in tight spaces or crowded events.
To summarize:
- Catering gazebos offer a budget-friendly and versatile option for outdoor events and food markets but have limited weather, space, and amenities. Consider your event type, location, and budget before deciding whether a gazebo suits you.
- A catering van offers a good balance between space, cost, and manoeuvrability, making it suitable for various catering needs.
- Catering trailers offer significant cost, space, and versatility advantages, making them suitable for established businesses catering to events or food markets. However, the higher costs and limited manoeuvrability need careful consideration before investing.
We can also issue a mobile catering gas certificate for vans, trailers, food trucks and food stalls. The only difference is that you will get a mobile catering vehicle gas certificate if you have a vehicle. The certificate will contain the details of the vehicle's make, model, and colour.
Mobile caterers trading on a food market or other event will get a mobile catering gas safety certificate, which will contain the business details, and we can add the site details where you are trading as well.
